State visit

A state visit will take place from from Wednesday 17 September to Thursday 18 September 2025.

State visit by the President and First Lady of the United States of America

The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Melania Trump, will pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom as the guests of their majesties The King and Queen, from Wednesday 17 September to Thursday 18 September 2025. 

The President and First Lady will stay at Windsor Castle.

To support this state visit, the Royal Borough is working with Thames Valley Police, the Crown Estate and other key partners, to minimise disruption to those that live and work in Windsor, or plan to visit.

Road and transport

Some road closures are expected from mid-morning to early afternoon on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 September 2025:

  • A308 Osborne Road.
  • A308 Frances Road.
  • A308 Kings Road Roundabout.
  • A308 Albert Road.
  • A322 Kings Road from junction with Bolton Road.
  • St Leonards Road from Bolton Road Roundabout.

Castle Hill road will be closed from Tuesday 16 to Friday 19 September 2025 which will prevent vehicle deliveries or pick-ups for business and residents. 

Additionally, the Thames Path between Victoria Bridge and Albert Bridge will be closed on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 September 2025.

If you have any concerns around access, please speak to a police officer.

The River Thames between Old Windsor Lock and Windsor and Eton Footbridge will be closed on multiple unspecified occasions from Monday 15 to Friday 19 September 2025. The Harbour Master has communicated that during these dates, delays of up to four hours can be expected at any time.

Businesses open as usual

While some roads may be closed, Windsor and Eton’s shops, cafés and restaurants will be open as usual. Most car parks will also be open, and all the pedestrianised areas and shopping centres will be fully accessible.
 

Security

There will be a visible and enhanced police and security presence in Windsor in the days leading up to the state visit and during the time the President is in Windsor. 

This will include:

  • neighbourhood policing teams,
  • armed and unarmed officers,
  • mounted patrols,
  • marine units,
  • drone teams and air support,
  • and security fencing along part of the Long Walk, which will close this to the general public.
